Technical SEO: a 30-minute checklist
Before you write new texts and buy links, make sure search engines see your pages at all and can show them.
1. Search Console
Connect the site and look at the indexing, crawl error and Core Web Vitals reports. It is the best source of truth about how Google sees your site.
2. Indexing
- Important pages are not blocked in robots.txt and have no noindex.
- Service and duplicate pages stay out of the index.
- Pages return a 200 code, not a 404 or a redirect chain.
3. Sitemap
The sitemap contains only canonical pages with a 200 code and is submitted in Search Console. For multilingual sites add language alternates.
4. Canonical and duplicates
Each page has a canonical pointing to itself or the main version. Versions with and without www, http and https and URL parameters must not duplicate content.
5. Redirects
One URL leads to another by a single permanent 301 redirect, with no chains. The primary domain mirror and https are configured consistently.
6. Mobile version and speed
Check pages on a phone. Google's guides for a "good" result: LCP within 2.5 s, INP within 200 ms, CLS within 0.1.
7. Titles, descriptions and markup
- Unique title and description for key pages.
- One H1 per page.
- Structured data where it fits: organisation, breadcrumbs, FAQ, products.
8. Languages
For multilingual sites set up hreflang and check that every version links to all the others and to itself.
