A Telegram bot for business: where it pays off and where it does not
A bot is not a magic wand. It works well where there are repeating actions and badly where a live conversation is needed. Here is how we assess it with clients.
Where a bot works well
- Appointments and bookings: the client picks a time without calls.
- Taking orders with standard fields and payment.
- Reminders about a visit, payment or delivery.
- Answers to standard questions: hours, address, terms.
- Notifications to the team and clients about status changes.
- Surveys and collecting feedback.
Where a bot will not help
- Complex sales that need trust and an individual conversation.
- When your clients simply do not use Telegram.
- When the process is not yet described: a bot will only cement the chaos.
How to estimate the benefit
Count how many times a week a manager performs the same action and how long it takes. If it is dozens of repeats, a bot will quickly become useful. Promising numbers in advance would be dishonest: it depends on your process.
How to launch without disappointment
- Describe one scenario from start to finish.
- Launch the minimum features and watch how they are used.
- Always keep a "talk to a human" button.
- Do not build ten menu levels: clients get tired.
- Ask for consent to data processing if you collect contacts.
What about AI
An AI agent answers questions in free text, but it must work only on your data (price list, knowledge base) and be able to hand the conversation to a human when unsure. Without that it will make things up.
